I have many interests that have developed over 40 years as a student, psychologist, educator, and consultant.

During the last few years I have become interested in translating research findings into usable procedures that can be applied to  organizations. I have been interested in models deriving from complexity and networking theories. Some of those writing on complexity approaches tends to be quite strident. Unfortunately that has led to excessive hype. However in the end, there are useful insights and practical implications.

It is my contention that aside from the technical aspects, organizations are best viewed as a series of interactive conversations. Rhetoric and connectivity are the keys to effective organization. For the former, see Eccles and Nohria's Beyond the Hype Another in a less scholarly style, see Shapiro's Fad Surfing in the Boardroom, which deals with the bombastic rhetoric of the consultants' worlds. The search for quick fixes is eternal as is the the disappointment in the results.

As time permits, I will deal with the issue of connectivity later.
